The air seemed heavy and smelled as if it were laced with poison as I stood just outside the door acquainting myself with the area of the courtyard. I was scanning for places that might offer a beast or a person concealment. From all reports people bodies were being found with huge lacerations from a creature at least the size of a man.
Bromm had vanished up a tree near the fence. I felt unease creep up behind me as I lost sight of him. I found myself holding my breath as I strained to hear where the beast was headed after attacking the compound next door. The only sound was rustle of leaves in the light breeze that seemed to swirl more than pick a direction to blow. The first line of a song rang out from half way up a tree “Farewell and adieu to ye ladies of Dowery”.
The rest of the words were lost to me between sounds of leather flapping in the wind and my heart pounding in my ears. I stepped behind a rock, tenner matched my motions as a shadow would. It landed as smoothly as any bird would be able to manage, and time seemed to slow to a crawl. The skin was like was the color of ash, but seemed to glint in places more like coal especially where the scales were more intricate. The sheer size of the wyrm was taller than three men and that didn’t include the massive tail. A wheezing sound started and immediately an ichor was pooling around us. Time instantly snapped back and the world was sizzling.
